Welcome to the RDC at Western!

Western University RDC

The Western University Research Data Centre (RDC) opened in 2004 and is one of more than 30 Statistics Canada secure physical environments. Access to the centre is available for accredited data users who have completed mandatory training, sworn or affirmed the Oath of Office and Secrecy to Statistics Canada, and attained valid security clearance. Once these steps are completed, users will be granted access to a wide range of deidentified and non-aggregated survey, administrative, and integrated Statistics Canada microdata for research purposes. More details about what this entails can be found on the RDC Application and Guidelines website.

In our centre, there are 13 workstations available for researcher use. Of these 13, six are bookable through our Picktime system in intervals of 2-hours, while the remaining seven are available on a first-come, first-serve basis. While many of our workstations share the same core programs (i.e., STATA, SAS, and R), there are some workstations with addition software installed (i.e., SPSS, MPlus, Matlab). Please be sure to check in with the posting on the front board or the analyst on duty to confirm which workstation will be best suited to the work you are looking to complete.

Upon gaining access to the centre, you will be added to our mailing list. Through this, we keep researchers updated on data availability, any changes to our daily operations (i.e., closures, change of hours), as well as opportunities through Statistics Canada and the CRDCN.

If you have any questions or would like to be added to our mailing list, please contact us. Thank you!

Booking a Workstation

Book a Time Slot

If you are currently an RDC researcher, we encourage you to use our online booking system. While we welcome drop-ins, this is the best way to ensure your spot in the centre. This is also the best method to select a workstation with additional software.
